Erick Malpica Flores: Carlos Erick Malpica Flores: MLB season win totals betting props highlighted by Dodgers and Astros
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros will try to return to the World Series in 2018, and they headline the list of MLB season win totals at the sportsbooks.
The Los Angeles Dodgers had the best record in baseball in 2017, going 104-58. With much of last year’s roster still intact, the Dodgers will try to build on that success with another strong season in 2018.
Los Angeles’s 2018 win total is set at 96.5 victories at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The OVER 96.5 is going off at -120 while the UNDER 96.5 is paying off at +100. The Dodgers, the favorites on the 2018 World Series odds, have won the NL West five straight times, but never with more than 94 wins before last season. To find the last time before 2017 that the Dodgers won over 95 games, you have to go all the way back to 1977.
Houston won the World Series in 2017 after going 101-61 during the regular season. The Astros are tied with Los Angeles for the highest set win total in the MLB this year at 96.5 wins, though they are favored to go OVER this total at -120 while the UNDER would pay +100. Before last season, Houston had gone 12 seasons without a 90-win year. But the patience of a rebuild that included three straight seasons with over 100 losses has paid major dividends as the Astros are now one of the elite teams in baseball.
One of the most intriguing totals on the board is the New York Yankees, who are set at 94.5 wins (Over -110, Under -110). New York went 91-71 last season but are a popular pick to improve this year after adding Giancarlo Stanton to an already powerful young lineup. The key to this team’s success will be Stanton staying healthy and the performance of the pitching staff. The Yankees won 95 or more games in four straight seasons from 2009 to 2012.
Other teams looking to hit big win totals in 2018 include the Cleveland Indians at 94.5 (Over -110, Under -110), the Chicago Cubs at 94.5 (Over +100, Under -120), the Washington Nationals at 92.5 (Over -115, Under -105) and the Boston Red Sox at 91.5 (Over -110, Under -110).
The lowest projected win total in the majors at online sports betting sites goes to the Miami Marlins at just 64.5 wins, after the team traded off some of its top stars this offseason.
