Like France, Argentina didn’t enter the World Cup in excellent form after a lackluster performance through the qualifying rounds. That poor momentum carried into group play where Argentina had a shocking draw against Iceland and then an even more shocking 3-0 defeat against Croatia.

But with its World Cup life on the line, Argentina got a brilliant opening goal from Lionel Messi and went on to beat Nigeria 2-1 to advance.

The regulation total for Argentina vs. France is set at two goals. There have been at least two goals scored in each of Argentina’s last seven games.

In the later game on Saturday, Uruguay is a slight favorite at +180 to win in regulation over Portugal at +190, with regulation time ending in a draw going off at +185. The total for this match is set at two goals.

While it was perhaps partially due to the weakness of its group, Uruguay still deserves credit for its absolute domination in Group A. The team went a perfect 3-0 while outscoring its opponents 5-0, improving to 7-0 overall over its last seven games.

Portugal had a more rocky road in the group stage, stealing a draw away from Spain with a brilliant goal from Cristiano Ronaldo in its first game and then having a draw stolen by Iran in the final game of the group as a penalty was assessed on a controversial hand ball call in the box. This result set the stage for this intriguing matchup with Uruguay.

Both teams are built around strong defense and a pair of elite strikers in Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo. Every touch these two players get will be magnified in a game that goals figure to be hard to come by in.
