Erick Malpica Flores: Carlos Erick Malpica Flores: Lonzo Ball’s torn meniscus should only hold him out until training camp, per report
That’s good news for the Lakers.
Lonzo Ball tore the meniscus in his left knee, according to Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania, but he’s expected to be back for training camp. Ball was diagnosed with the injury last season, according to Charania, and is going through recovery options that will best fit him for next season.
The point guard battled through an injury-riddled rookie season, but showed bright spots when healthy. This injury doesn’t appear to set him back at all for the 2018-19 season.
The timing of the injury announcement feels a bit peculiar as the Spurs and Lakers are reportedly in talks for a Kawhi Leonard trade. Ball is one of a few highly coveted young players L.A. has on its roster, and San Antonio may want him in return. This all could, however, be coincidental.
The good news for ball is that there’s an expectation that he won’t miss the regular season for this injury. A number of NBA athletes, including Russell Westbrook, have returned just fine after meniscus injuries.
