LSU Tigers

It is crazy to see just how much the public perception of a team can change on a week-to-week basis. LSU climbed to No. 5 in the AP Top 25 with a 5-0 SU and 3-2 ATS start that included impressive upset wins over Miami and Auburn.

But after a 27-19 road loss to the Florida Gators, LSU was dropped down to No. 13 and made a 7-point home underdog to the Georgia Bulldogs last Saturday. Considered an SEC afterthought before that game, LSU crushed Georgia 36-16 to jump back up to No. 5, and suddenly the Tigers are Alabama’s biggest obstacle in the SEC West.

With the win over Georgia, LSU improved to 7-0 SU and ATS over its last seven games per the OddsShark College Football Database.

Mississippi State Bulldogs

Mississippi State has had a similar one-week resurgence in its last game. After seeing dual-threat quarterback Nick Fitzgerald and the Mississippi State offense totally neutralized in a 28-7 loss to Kentucky and a 13-6 loss to Florida, the Bulldogs fell from No. 14 in the nation to out of the Top 25.

But with 195 rushing yards and two touchdowns, Fitzgerald led the Bulldogs to a 23-9 win over then No. 8 Auburn to move to 15-6 SU over their last 21 games.

Saturday’s total is set at 45 points. The UNDER is 5-0 in Mississippi State’s last five games against SEC opponents.

This should be a great game between two of the nation’s top defensive teams. LSU has the home field advantage, but the Bulldogs enter the game with the best scoring defense in the nation allowing only 12.7 points per game and have had a bye week to prepare for this one. Both offenses will have their work cut out for them on Saturday.
