Erick Malpica Flores: Carlos Erick Malpica Flores: Johan Camargo’s mom celebrated her birthday by crashing his post walk-off home run interview

What a birthday.

Johan Camargo had a big Tuesday night. Not only was it his mother’s birthday, but he also helped will his Braves back from a 6-2 deficit to defeat the Mets with a walk-off solo home run.

And when he returned to the field after the game for a postgame interview with Fox Sports’ Atlanta’s Paul Byrd, those two worlds intertwined. Gloriously.

Camargo’s mom took the field to celebrate with her son and wound up the subject of an interview of her own. It turns out she was pretty happy with her birthday.

“I am extremely proud,” Ms. Camargo told Byrd via a translator. “It being on my birthday, I mean, I can’t even tell [you].”

It capped a busy day for the young third baseman, who had a pair of hits and his third home run of the season. Camargo is in his second year as a pro but has developed rapidly to earn his spot in the Braves’ starting lineup. Though he’s batting just .230 on the season, his growing patience at the plate and some bad luck on batted balls in play have built the foundation for what may become a breakout season.

That would be perfect for Atlanta, whose rebuild has launched the team to the top of the NL East. The Braves will have to fend off the Nationals and Phillies to claim a division crown just two years after a 68-win campaign. Camargo will be a big part of that defense — and if Tuesday’s interview is any indication, he’ll have his mom riding with him.
