Erick Malpica Flores: Carlos Erick Malpica Flores: Trout, Harper are MLB MVP betting favorites on latest prop odds
Mike Trout and Bryce Harper are the favorites to win their respective league’s MVP awards at the sportsbooks with the 2018 MLB season two months old.
Mike Trout is a two-time winner of the AL MVP Award, earning that honor in both 2014 and 2016. Trout is favored to add another MVP Award to his trophy case in 2018.
The Los Angeles Angels star is a +300 favorite on the odds to win the AL MVP award at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Widely considered the best positional player in baseball, Trout is once again putting together a fantastic season at the plate with a .303 batting average, 35 RBI, and an AL-leading 18 home runs and .448 on base percentage (stats heading into Tuesday’s action).
Trout also leads the majors in the Wins Against Replacement (WAR) stat, scoring a 4.9 in that category.
The main reason Mike Trout hasn’t run away with the award is the play of Boston’s Mookie Betts. Betts leads the American League in batting average at .359 and runs scored with 52 and ranks second in the AL in home runs (17), on base percentage (.437) and WAR (4.1). It also won’t hurt Betts’ chances that his Boston Red Sox are in line to have one of the best records in baseball. If these two superstars stay healthy, the vote could be very tight down the stretch.
Other potential contenders on the AL MVP odds include Jose Altuve (+700), Aaron Judge (+1000), Manny Machado (+1200), Giancarlo Stanton (+1400), J.D. Martinez (+1600), and Andrelton Simmons (+1600)
National League MVP Betting Lines
On the odds to win the NL MVP award the race seems a lot more wide open as there aren’t any clear favorites to come out on top. The favorites on the betting board are Bryce Harper (+400), Nolan Arenado (+400) and Freddie Freeman (+600).
Harper won the award in 2015 and is the leader in the National League in home runs with 16 and walks with 46. But with a batting average of just .228, Harper will likely need to get that number up if he hopes to win the NL MVP Award for a second time.
While the American League MVP race looks like a favorable one to bet the chalk, the National League could be the spot to take a stab on a longshot. Worthy options on the NL MVP odds include Kris Bryant (+1000), Scooter Gennett (+1200), Brandon Belt (+1400), Joey Votto (+2000), Charlie Blackmon (+2000), Nick Markakis (+2000), Ozzie Albies (+2000) and Travis Shaw (+2000).
