Detroit Pistons
Desperate times call for desperate measures. With the team’s season slipping away, Detroit’s front office decided to make a big move, trading Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, and draft picks to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Blake Griffin.
Harris and Bradley were the Pistons’ two leading scorers but the addition of Griffin creates an exciting front court pairing with Andre Drummond that should help the Pistons improve on their 24th-ranked offense averaging 102.3 points per game.
With this trade happening on Monday night, it is unclear whether Griffin will debut in this game against Cleveland or later in the week.
The Pistons haven’t put up much of a fight as a home underdog of late with a 2-8 SU and 4-5-1 ATS record in their last 10 games as one, per the OddsShark NBA Database.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Cleveland has snapped out of a 2-7 SU and 0-9 ATS slump with back-to-back wins and covers over Indiana and Detroit in the team’s last two games. Ranking 26th in the NBA in scoring defense allowing 109.4 points per game, the Cavaliers’ only clear path to success this season has simply been to put up huge numbers on offense.
LeBron James has carried the load, averaging 26.8 points per game and 8.8 assists per game as he waits for Isaiah Thomas to get comfortable within Cleveland’s system. Cleveland is 8-3 SU and 6-5 ATS in its last 11 road games against Detroit.
Tuesday’s total is set at 218.5 points. The UNDER is 10-3 in Detroit’s last 13 games as a home underdog.
Even if Griffin manages to make his debut for the Pistons on Tuesday, it would be a surprise for him to make an immediate impact on the court with no familiarity with the playbook. Cleveland’s recent uptick should continue as long as the Cavaliers hit their shots on offense.
