Erick Malpica Flores: Carlos Erick Malpica Flores: The Blackhawks needed an emergency goalie, and a local accountant saved the day

Accountant by day, emergency goaltender by night.

This is how legends are made.

On Thursday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets, rookie goaltender Collin Delia left in the third period for the Chicago Blackhawks. With goaltender Anton Forsberg already out for the game, the team had to call on Scott Foster, who the team signed that day.

Scott Foster is a senior accountant! in fact, you can check out his LinkedIn page right here. Of course the Blackhawks weren’t going to sign just anybody to be their goaltender. Foster does have experience playing the position — he last played a game in 2005 as a member of Western Michigan University, according to Sportsnet.

But the 13 years between competitive hockey games didn’t even matter for Foster. He didn’t allow a goal the entire time he played! He had 7 saved on 7 shots faced. Being a senior accountant, Foster probably deals with a lot of numbers so it’s nice for him to see a 0 in his stats.

At the end of the game, NBC interviewed Foster after his performance. “A few hours ago you’re working your day job, and then you’re living your dream.”

Chicago defeated the Jets 6-2 with Foster’s help. It’s going to be a great day tomorrow when he shows up to the office and tells his coworkers the evening he’s had. The Blackhawks should consider retiring this number-crunching goaltender’s number for the amazing performance. But if that’s not possible, his office should all pitch in and get him a celebratory cake during lunch.
